ON THE WATER MAGAZINE, DECEMBER 2009 LURE REVIEW !

By Chris Shoplock :

As a saltwater angler from the mid-Atlantic region thin-profile swimming baits are a staple in my arsenal almost 100% of the time. Rapala introduced the first of these baits long ago and lately the plastic variety has been the most prevalent.  Many are too light however and not usually through wired.  When a bigger fish came calling, many were lost.  Wood swimmers are hard to come by.  Due to their shape they cannot be ‘turned’ on a lathe and must be hand-carved.  Happily Green Point Tackle has begun to supply anglers with just such a plug.  They are simply a work of art.  Beautiful colors and a perfect finish are only the beginning.  Every one I ever fished swims perfectly with no tuning and boy do they thump!   They have premium components and can stand up to the biggest bass you can find.  Since each one is handmade they are technically a custom plug and cost accordingly, but are worth every penny.   The best news is that they catch!  If I had a dollar for every time someone asked me what I was fishing, I would have plenty to go buy another right away!

D.J. Aanensen Sharp Eyes Kevin I finally got out last night with my new 1 oz lures from you. I've been fishing bait [because I wanted to actually catch something] but the water temp got over 50 last night so I took out my new school bus 1 oz ' Sharp eye' swimmer, some RM's, Tattoo's and went fishing. Nothing on the tattoo's or Rm's so I put on your lure. 2nd cast, first miss of the season. Next cast, striper on and landed. Two more misses so I went back to the other lures...nada. Just wanted to thank you for making me smile last night. Great lure, good action and now I'm full of confidence. I'll make a prediction that tonight I'll get my first keeper on your lures. Thanks again D.J. Aanensen

John Robichaud Sharp Eyes Just this last October, Cape Cod, a hair over 31.5# on a Sharp Eye 1.5 , Grey back/Pearl glitter with slight pink on the sides. Thanks Kevin, I'll never forget being alone in complete darkness pulling that thing out of the ocean. Released of course. John

Pete Christy-RI Sharp 'let Larger stripers arrived early at my usual spots this year. In mid-May I was plugging around bridges and inlets at night and had my first success with one of Kevin's Sharp'lets (in the blue pattern pictured). I tried several plugs that normally produce in these locations at this time of year but the Sharp'let outfished everything else. The deep-diving action and flash off the metal lip seems to be irresistible. Lethal around pilings, jetties and bridge structure. Well done!

Steve McKenna Sharp Eyes I have been using Kevin's plugs since July '09 and have found them to be a most productive artificial! I have taken stripers up to almost 30 pounds on the Sharp eye in 1,1 1/2, 1/3/4 and 2 oz. models. My favorite colors have been all yellow, chartreuse/white, black, black and yellow and all white. His plugs swim great with a seductive wide wiggle much like a wooden metal lip rather than the tight wiggle of the plastic version. I think the Sharp eye is a much more productive plug than the plastic models put out by Cotton Cordell(Red Fin), Rebel and Bomber. I don't think I will ever buy one of those plastic plugs again. I think every surf striper fisherman out there should try the Sharp eye plug. They are fish catchers! Thanks, Steve

Chris Bush Sharp Eyes I opened up my recent order yesterday and unpacked the 2oz sharp eyes that you finished up and they look fantastic. I picked out one of my favorite colors and headed upstairs to give it a float test to see how it sat and turned over. I was really impressed with your weighting of this plug; it sits just slightly heads down and has a very nice roll. When I picked out the 2oz sharp eye, I was looking for a heavier swimmer to get some added distance and better action in moving water. Today was a pretty nice day, so I figured I’d head down to the shore and give them a try. These were a dream to cast and what a stable wiggle, the action was killer. It’s still a little early but I’m confident these plugs will really hook up. Thanks again and awesome craftsmanship. Chris
